Building Nep Meals: From Idea to Impact

In a country as vibrant and evolving as Nepal, innovation often begins with a simple question: what can we do better? For us, that question led to the creation of Nep Meals, a food delivery app built not just for convenience, but for impact.

Every startup has a beginning, and ours started with just a simple yet big idea: to play a small part in making Nepal more developed and sustainable. We did not have huge funding or endless resources when we started. What we did have was a strong belief that what we were building actually mattered.

With limited resources, every step required extra effort, from designing and developing the app to solving real-world logistical challenges.

The Idea That Matters (The Rescue Feature)

The main feature of Nep Meals, currently, is something we call the Rescue Feature. Here is the problem: restaurants make extra food every day, and at night a lot of it gets thrown away. That never made sense to us. So we thought, what if people could order the leftover food at a lower price? That is exactly what the Rescue Feature does. Restaurants list leftover food at the end of the day, users buy it at cheaper prices, food does not go to waste. It helps restaurants recover some money instead of losing it completely. It helps people get affordable food. Most importantly, it helps reduce waste, which matters for the environment more than we realize.

We are starting from Birtamode. Not because it is the easiest place, but because it is ours. It is growing, it has potential, and it is the right place to test something real. Instead of trying to go big from day one, we wanted to build something that actually works in one city first: understand restaurants, understand customers, fix problems, improve, then scale. The plan is simple, get it right in Birtamode, then take it all over Nepal.

What's Next

Right now, everything is about getting the basics right: making sure the app works smoothly, getting more restaurants on board, and making people actually use it. Once that foundation is strong, we expand. More cities. More users. More impact. Nep Meals is still at the beginning. There is a lot we are still figuring out and it is not perfect, but it is real. If this works the way we believe it can, it will not just be another food delivery app, it will create real change. We do not just want to be another food delivery app. The goal is bigger than that. We want to build something that contributes to growth and sustainability. An effort from our side to encourage people to make smarter choices in their everyday lives.
